Mat 27:1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took [BT: held a] counsel against Jesus to put him to death: qtext

GF5:25 (1674): "as a company of thieves wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent, for their work is mischief [Hos 6:9G]." Was not this so in Hosea's days? And was it not so in the days of Christ against him? and is it not so now? Read in Mat 27:1 how early they got up in the morning to work mischief, for when morning was come they rose up together, the chief priests and elders to take counsel together to put Christ to death; and hath not this spirit and practice been found amongst ye priests and professors now a-days against Christ's followers?

HPS 176 (Katharine Evans & Sarah Chevers, prisoners of the Inquisition, 1662): After the Consul came with tears in his eyes, and said he was as sorry as for his own flesh; but there was some hopes in time; and so he went away, but never had peace while he lived. He would have given up the thirty pieces of silver again, but it would not be received [Mat 27:3-5]; the Witness was risen much in him, but slavish fear possessed him.

GF5:207f (1675): consider Christ's words to Saul, while he was persecuting him, he "kicked against that which pricked him [Acts 9:5],"... whilst he persecuted Christ in his members; so see if you can tell, what it was he kicked against? and what that was that made Judas confess he had sinned in betraying the innocent blood [Mat 27:4]? was it not that which condemned him [John 3:19f], that will make every tongue to confess [Phil 2:11]?

GFJN 46 (16–): Then I asked them, seeing Judas, who betrayed Christ and was called the son of perdition [John 17:12], had hanged himself [Mat 27:5], what son of perdition was that which Paul spoke of, that sat in the temple of God, exalted above all that is called God [2 Th 2:3f], and what temple of God that was in which this son of perdition sat, and whether he that betrays Christ within, in himself, be not one in nature with that Judas that betrayed Christ without.

GF4:243 (1660): Your field has been a field of blood [Mat 27:8], and the righteous blood lies among you, the field of the persecutors upon the earthh, transgressors, destroyers, the earth the field, the world the field of blood, where all the blood of the righteous lies, and it is required of you [Luk 11:50f], the righteous blood that has been shed since the days of the apostles by you [Mat 23:35], the witness in all your consciences [Rom 2:15] shall answer it.

JN1:133 (1653): And for their silence, "Is there not a time to speak and a time to be silent?" [Eccl 3:7] And "was not Christ asked many questions, and answered nothing" [Mat 27:12 ||]? GF3:544f (1659): And did not the priests stir up the rulers and magistrates to persecute? though they themselves did not often do it, who had not the power, but they stirred up the magistrates to do it. And they came to be their slaughterers, to execute their malice, and be their executioners. Ye do not, ye may say, it is the magistrates that ye stir up to do it. It is not said, the priests did slay and crucify Christ, but Pilate; but the priests had power amongst the multitude to persuade the multitude to ask the murderer [Mat 27:20] (who had murder in their hearts), and Pilate did the thing [Mat 27:26].

JN1:396 (John Audland, 1654): the Lord is against you, who instead of executing justice upon them who live in wickedness, which your streets abound with [Psa 55:11], you draw your sword to punish them and to prison them who are sent of the Lord to cry against these abominations; you choose Barabbas and crucify Jesus [Mat 27:21-23 ||]; you prison the saints of the most high [Dan 7:18] God for speaking the word of the Lord, which you shall eternally witness whether you hear or forbear [Ezek 2:7], the word of the Lord shall stand and must not return in vain [Jer 50:9].

GF5:202 (1675): But as the Jews persecuted him, and cried, "Crucify him, crucify him [Luk 23:21]," in the flesh; so you professors of Christ in the flesh, persecute Christ in the spirit, in his light, and in his life, who cannot reach to crudify him in his flesh any more, but to yourselves [Heb 6:6] and in his members.

EQ 112 (James Nayler, 1658): Do you suffer with him herein, who have a heart consenting to these things, if not a hand deeply in them; secret or open, either in this cruelty acting or contriving, or in cursed and scornful speeches condemning them that bear witness, as a foolish ignorant people, and that they bring their sufferings upon themselves, by their own wills. So shoot your poisoned arrows one way or other against that spirit which leads, and has ever led such as do not resist and disobey him, into the same testimony, and so in secret you become worse than open persecutors. Or it maybe some few become as far as Pilate, who washed his own hands [Mat 27:24], while others shed the innocent blood; and these are few indeed, who thus far will openly confess the just and innocent Lord before his accusers, in what soever vessel he is thus honored.

HPS 175 (Katharine Evans and Sarah Chevers, prisoners of the Inquisition, 1662): The Consul did affirm to us the night before, that there was no such thing (as to ensnare us) intended; but it was in us as fire, and our souls were heavy even unto death; for many days before we saw in a vision of our going there (to prison), and we said Pilate would do the Jews a pleasure, and wash his hands in innocency [Mat 27:24].

JN1:174 (1653): And will you be found at that day subjects in the kingdom of Christ, wherein all the saints are one, and Christ their head and lawgiver? RBA 31 (1678, II.6): Of this revelation of Christ in him Paul speaketh (Gal 1:16), in which he placeth the excellency of his ministry, and the certainty of his calling. And the promise of Christ to his disciples, "Lo, I am with you to the end of the world [Mat 28:20]," confirmeth this same thing; for this is an inward presence, and spiritual, as all acknowledge....

Ye shall weep and lament, saith Jesus, but the world shall rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy [John 16:20], and their rejoicing into howling. And lo I am with you to the end of the world [Mat 28:20]. Be ye therefore encouraged in the holy way of the Lord; wait diligently for his daily manifestations unto your souls, that you may be strengthened in your inward man [2 Cor 4:16], with might and power, and do the will of God on earth, as it is done in heaven [Mat 6:10].

WPR 589, WPT 383 (1694): in these solemn assemblies, for the Church's service, there is no one presides among them after the manner of the assemblies of other people; Christ only being their President, as he is pleased to appear in life and wisdom in any one or more of them, to whom, whatever be their capacity or degree, the rest adhere with a firm unity, not of authority but conviction, which is the divine authority and way of Christ's power and Spirit in his people: Making good his blessed promise, that he would be in the midst of his, where and whenever they were met in his name [Mat 18:20], even to the end of the world [Mat 28:20].
