GF7:93 (1655): So the Lamb must get the victory [Rev 17:14] in every one of you, which is Christ in the male and in the female [Gal 3:28]; who brings into the Father's house [John 14:2], (from all the congregations of the dead [Prov 21:16], and their houses of darkness,) wherein every one comes to have his mansion [John 14:2], and his food of life from God the Father of life, who is blessed for evermore!
HPS 482 (Mary Waite, 1679): So all dear Friends be faithful under your several dispensations, for in our Father's house are many mansions [John 14:2]....

IP3:460 (1670): And here, the heavenly place in Christ is sat down in [Eph 2:6], toward which is the travel [/travail] of the disciple. For saith Christ ot his disciples, "I go to prepare a place [John 14:2]," and "I will come again [John 14:3]," and translate you thither [Col 1:13] But the disciples do not come to this place before their travel [=travail], or before any works of righteousness which God hath wrought in them.

GFJN 35: When the Lord God and his son Jesus Christ sent me forth into the world to preach his everlasting gospel [Rev 14:6] and kingdom, I was glad that I was commanded to turn people to that inward light, spirit, and grace, by which all might know their salvation and their way to God; even that divine spirit which would lead them into all truth [John 16:13], and which I infallibly knew would never deceive any. But with and by this divine power and spirit of God, and the light of Jesus, I was to bring people off from all their own ways, to Christ the new and living way [Heb 10:20]; from their churches, which men had made and gathered, to the church in God, the general assembly written in heaven, [Heb 12:23] which Christ is the head of [Eph 5:23]; and off from the world's teachers made by men, to learn of Christ [Mat 11:29], who is the way, the truth, and the life [John 14:6], of whom the Father said, ‘This is my beloved son, hear ye him [Mat 17:5];’ and off from all the world's worships, to know the spirit of truth in the inward parts [John 14:17/Psa 51:6], and to be led thereby, that in it they might worship the Father of spirits [Heb 12:9], who seeks such to worship him [John 4:23]; which spirit they that worshipped not in, knew not what they worshipped [John 4:22].
GF5:269 (1677): But none sees Christ, or sees the way, or sees the word, but whose spirits, minds, and souls are turned to the divine light of Christ, which enlightens their spirits, their candle, and then they see Christ the way, the truth, and the life [John 14:6], and the light that gives them the knowledge that shines in their hearts [2 Cor 4:6], that has enlightened their spirits. Now disobedience, and loving the darkness rather than the light [John 3:19], puts out this candle, and so the candle of the wicked is often put out [Job 21:17].
GF7:323f (1668): And the true way is lost since the apostles' days, which Christ set up above sixteen hundred years since; who said, ‘I am the way to the Father; and no man cometh to the Father, but by me [John 14:6].’ So no one comes out of old Adam, but by Christ, the second Adam. No one comes out of darkness, but by Christ, the light; no one comes out of death, and from under the prince of death, the power of it, but by Christ, the life. So he is the way to God. No one comes out of unrighteousness, but by Christ, the righteousness; no one comes out of the wisdom below [James 3:15], but by Christ, who is the wisdom of God [1 Cor 1:24], which is from above [James 3:17]. And no one comes out of error and evil, but by Christ, the truth. So is he the door [John 10:9] and the way to God Almighty. And no man comes to the Father, but by him. No one comes out of captivity or prison, but by Christ the heavenly man. And so, they having erred from Christ, the way, they have set up so many ways in Christendom among them; and fall out about their ways one with another, enmity being among them. [Continued under Heb 10:20]
GF8:78 (1675): ... such as talk of Christ, and do not walk in him; such as profess him, and do not possess him; ... such as profess Christ the way, and walk not in the way, the truth, and the life [John 14:6], all such talkers, and not walkers, are dishonourers of God [Rom 2:23], and cause his holy name to be blasphemed among such as make no profession [Rom 2:24].
MFU 202 (1656): ...turn to the light of Jesus Christ which will examine and search and try you, and bring you to know Christ within you, and so bring you out of the reprobate faith [2 Cor 13:5/2 Tim 3:8]. This will let you see the mystery which is Christ within; and this will bring you to know him come in the flesh [1 Jn 4:2f]; and it will let you see those Antichrists who are in the world striving amongst their many opinions: and therefore they are condemned with the light which is the world's condemnation.... And so now see whether you will turn to the light of Jesus Christ who is the the way the truth & the life [John 14:6], which is but one, or you will continue amongst them who are of the many opinions, who denies the light, & Christ come in the flesh, and so is found to be the Antichrists, & deceivers of your souls [2 Jn 1:7] .
JN2:462 (1655): To the eleventh query, which asketh, "What that way in the wilderness is, which is called the way of holiness [Isa 35:8]; and whether any may expect to find it in these days?" To this thou sayest, "Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and none can come to the Father but by him [John 14:6]." I say that these are true words; but thou that makest it thy work to preach him out of the world till doomsday and confine him in the heavens alone hast excluded him for being a way to those now in the world, to lead them out of the world, which cannot ascend up to heaven there to walk in him as a way: so thou hast shut up the kingdom against men [Mat 23:13] as thy fathers ever did.
IP3:160f (1668): Come down to the Gentile's light, come down to that which God hath dispensed to the Gentile, as well as to the Jew; which is the word (or commandment) nigh in the mouth and heart [Deut 30:14]. This hath been the lowest of all, despised by all; and this is in the heart of God to exalt over all; for it is above all.... This is the thing which man ran from, when the veil came over him; which all the shadows of the law were to point out and signify. And as man is brought again to this, life springs in him, and the powerful redemption of the eternal word is witnessed by him. Yea, he that hears the voice of this, though he were ever so dead in trespasses and sins [Eph 2:1], shall feel life spring in him, and the covenant of life inwardly revealed, which, by the pure faith and obedience, is the entrance into, and the abiding in. And this is the one truth, the one pure, eternal word and way to the Father [John 14:6], which was from the beginning [John 1:1], and remains the same unto the end. This is the door, at which all do still enter, and there is no other [John 10:9].
IP3:251 (1671): [quotes Prov 6:23 and 4:18] Just as a light, which shines outwardly, is to the outward man; such is the inward light to the inward man; yea more; for inwardly the light and the way is all one. Christ is the way, the truth, and the life [John 14:6], which are three names of one and the same thing. And he that walks in the light, walks in the way of life and holiness; which he that walks in the darkness walks out of.... The heart of man, the unregenerate mind, the unregenerate spirit) is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; that whereby God searcheth it, is his light, his candle, his own Holy Spirit [Prov 20:27AV,G].
SIW 144 (Ann Crowley, 18–): I saw with indubitable clearness, that Christ is the only "way, the truth, and the life [John 4:6]," and that our words and our actions must be governed by His Spirit.

IP3:38 (1667): [Father, Son, and Spirit] are one nature and one being. A man may have notions of hte one, and not of the other; but their nature, their being, their life, their virtue, is inseparable. And as Christ said concerning the Father, --that he was in the Father, and the Father in him; [John 14:11] and that he that saw him saw the Father [John 14:9]; so, may it not be as truly affirmed ... concerning Christ, that he is in the Spirit, and the Spirit in him and he that seeth the Spirit, seeth him... IP3:292 (1674): Quest. Which are greater, the works which Christ did outwardly on the bodies of men in the days of his flesh [Heb 5:7], or which he doth inwardly in men's minds and spirits by the powerful appearance and operation of his Spirit? Because Christ said, the works that he did, those that believed on him should do, and greater also, because he went to the Father. John 14:12. Ans. Doubtless to reach to the soul, and quicken the soul, and raise the soul out of the grave of death, and cure the blindness, deafness, hardness, and diseases of the soul, is greater than the outward, and was signified by the outward.
JSS 52 (17–): ...even though we have been in degree weakened and disheartened by sin, what Christ said to his followers is strictly true: "The works that I do shall ye do also; and greater works than these shall ye do [John 14:12]." One greater thing, at least, we all may do, if we will; we may all conquer satan, and knows his head entirely bruised [Gen 3:15]; know him bound and cast out, and all his goods destroyed [Mat 12:29], even after we have been enslaved by him...

GF7:141, GFEJ 114 (1657, continued from under Jas 1:6): And whatsoever ye ask believing, it will be given unto you; it is Christ's promise. John xiv. 13, 14. If ye love me, keep my commandments [John 14:13- 15]." So, every one's prayers are assured unto them, and their requests effectual in their obedience, and loving Christ, and keeping his commandments.

Oh, our life, we hope to see you again, that our joy may be full [2 Jn 1:12], for in you presence is fullness of joy [Psa 16:11].

GF3: 309 (1659): No one comes out of the covenant of works, but by the Light within, which Christ, the covenant of God, hath enlightened him withal [John 1:9]. And no one lives out of the covenant of works, but who lives in the light; and who lives in the light, lives in Christ, and Christ in him: "I in you, and you in me [John 14:20];" and they who hate his light, live not in Christ, it condemns them [John 3:19f], for they are in their own covenant of works.
JSS 44 (17–): "He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you [John 14:17," says Christ. And again: "Because I live, ye shall live also: at that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you [John 14:20]." As really as he is in the Father, his brethren are in him; and as really as the Father is in him, and is his life, so really is he in them and is their life. As really as God and man are united in one, in him, so really are they so in all his.

IP3: 525f (1677): if thou be as really desirous, and waitest, as singly, to know and obey the commands of truth as ever, then, thy love to it is as great as formerly in hits first heat and zeal; otherwise not. "He that hath my commandments and keepeth them," saith Christ, "he it is that loveth me." John 14:21. And hereby, we know that our knowledge of him is true and living; becaue it leads, quickens, and enables us to the keeping of his commandments. 1 John 2:3.

RBA 45, RBAF 35 (1678, II.10): Thirdly, What the work of the Spirit is , ... Christ compriseth in two or three things, "He will guide you into all Truth [John 16:13]": "He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance [John 14:26]." Since Christ hath provided for us so good an instructor, what need we then lean so much to those traditions and commandments of men [Col 2:8, 22] wherewith so many Christians have burthened themselves? What need we set up our own carnal and corrupt reason for a guide to us in matters spiritual, as some will needs do? May it not be complained of all such, as the Lord did of old concerning Israel by the prophets (Jer 2:13): "For my people have committed two evils, they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water."
HPS 404 (Elizabeth Bathurst, 1679): This I write, as one having witnessed the Spirit to be given for a Rembrancer, which was faithfully promised by the Lord Jesus, John 14:26, even that Spirit of Truth, which he told his disciples, it should bring all things to their remembrance; and so indeed it doth call back things that are past, and set them in order before us, judging and condemning of us for what we have done amiss: And now, a remnant having heard that (in our hearts) that that told us all things that we ever did [John 4:29,39], we know this to be the voice of Christ.... [more under John 1:48]
WTG 228 (Elizabeth Hudson, 1750): I told her as to memory, it was but little use to a gospel minister, for they relied not upon it but on the immediate revelation of the spirit of God which brought these scriptures to our remembrance [John 14:26] which perhaps we had not read or thought on for many years...

Now if any shall object that scripture, where Christ saith, My Father is greater than I [John 14:28]. That must needs be understood only as he assumed the name of man; not at all relating to the fulness of the Godhead that dwelleth bodily in him [Col 2:9; quotes Heb 1:2f]. And therefore I believe (and so do they, in whose behalf I write) that Jesus Christ is very God [1 Jn 5:20 GBT].
JSS 65 (17–): But though all the divine life in Christ, was the very life of God in him, and in that sense he and the Father were one [John 10:30]; yet as in him something was taken into union with God which was human, therefore Christ testified, "My Father is greater than I [John 14:28]." This will eternally be the case; God is and ever will be greater than any thing else; and though humanity is united with divinity, in every new born babe in Christ, yet none can ever aspire to equality with God.

IP2:291 (1662): And as the soul, being touched with the living virtue, gives itself up to believe, and to trust the power which draws; so the power manifests itself in the heart, according to the proportion of the faith which the eternal virtue hath begotten there. And as the soul in the faith gives itself up to obey, so the power appears and works the obedience. RBA 330 (1678, XI.21): We freely confess that prayer is both very profitable and a necessary duty, commanded and fit to be practiced frequently by all Christians; but as we can do nothing without Christ [John 15:5], so neither can we pray without the concurrence and assistance of his Spirit..... Inward prayer is that secret turning of the mind towards God whereby, being secretly touched and awakened by the Light of Christ in the conscience, and so bowed down under the sense of its iniquities, unworthiness, and misery, it looks up to God, and joining issue with the secret shinings of the Seed of God it breathes ... some secret desires and aspirations towards him.... IP2:433 (1666): Quest. 3. How may a true church continue so? Ans. By abiding in the Spirit, life, and power, that gathered and built them up into a church.... Even as a disciple, departing out of the vine [John 15:6], making shipwreck of the faith [1 Tim 1:19], loseth that which made him a disciple or Christian; so a church, departing from the Spirit and life of what they profess, languish by degrees, even till their life be wholly extinct, and they wholly lose that state and being which they had by their gathering.
JSS 26: But let us now hear the great wisdom of man, that God has made real foolishness with him [1 Cor 1:20]. "What!" says the reasoner, the wise disputer of this world, "how can the branch and vine be one, if the branch may be cast forth, and withered [John 15:6]?" This is just as wise as the reasoning of the Jews, "We have heard out of the law, that Christ abideth forever, and how sayest thou, the son of man must be lifted up [John 12:34]." Can the branch be cast forth, and wither outwardly? It can. Was it not therefore of the vine? It was.
(John 15:7)
JSS 25f (17): "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you [John 15:7]." "Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that I will do [John 14:13]." As he cannot deny himself, a branch abiding in him, and asking in his name, cannot ask without receiving: therefore it holds good forever, "Ask, and ye shall receive [Mat 7:7f]." It cannot possibly fail, for, says he, "The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself, but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works [John 14:10]. Just so every branch in him may say, "I speak not of myself, I ask in thy name: it is thy word that speaks, and asketh in me;" "I live, yet not I, it is Christ that liveth in me [Gal 2:20]."

GF3:233 (1659): The saints are the temples of God, and God dwells in them, and walks in them [2 Cor 6:16]; and they come to witness the flesh of Christ, and they glorify them in their souls and bodies [1 Cor 6:20], and the Lord is glorified in their bringing forth much fruit [John 15:8]. And they witness the seed, the one offering for sin and transgression [Heb 10:14], to be manifest within; and such are not reprobates, that witness the one offering Christ Jesus; but they that have him not within, are reprobates [2 Cor 13:5].
GF8:248 (1684): And as you have received Christ, so walk in him [Col 2:6], and know him to rule in your hearts by faith [Eph 3:17]. For herein (as Christ said) is my Father glorified; that you bring forth much heavenly fruit [John 15:8], and that your spiritual and heavenly light may shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven [Mat 5:16].
HPS 509 (Katharine Whitton, 1681): But living praises to the Lord, who in every age is ready to reward the faithful, in what hour soever they labour in his vineyard [Mat 20:1-14]; and there is not one member, though never so little, if in the body, nor instrument, though never so weak, if prepared of the Lord, but all needful and useful in their places [1 Cor 12:12-27], to the dressing of the vineyard of the Lord [Isa 5:7], and for the plucking up of those hurtful weeds that cumber the tender plants. And dear Friends, let this be done in God's pure fear [Psa 19:9 LXX], and heavenly wisdom [Jas 3:17], with a tender care over every weak plant, that it may be nourished within good ground [Mat 13:8,23], that it may bring forth fruit to God's glory; for thereby, saith he, am I glorified, that ye bring forth much fruit [John 15:8].

Besides, here is the most palpable opposition to an imputative righteousness that may be; for Christ is so far from telling them of such a way of being justified, as that he informs them the reason why he abode in his Father's love, was his obedience; and is so far from telling them of their being justified, whilst not abiding in his love, by virtue of his obedience imputed unto them, that unless they keep his commands, and obey for themselves, they shall be so remote from an acceptance, as wholly to be cast out [John 15:6]; in all which Christ is but our example.
15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another [BT: together], as I have loved you. qtext

15:15 Henceforth I call [GBT: call I] you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord [G: master] doeth: but I have called you [BT: you have I called] friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known [T: opened] unto [GBT: to] you. qtext
15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should [GT: that ye; B: to] go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should [GT: omit] remain: that whatsoever ye shall [B: omits] ask of the Father in my name, he may [T: should] give it you.
15:17 These things [BT: This] I command [GBT: command I] you, that ye love one another [BT: together].

GF7:317 (1668): Carnal men may set up worships, who have not the same spirit and power the apostles had. And such lead people into sects and heaps, and lead people out of the spirit, and persecute one another about their worships, which is not the way of truth, nor the command of Christ, but on the contrary, "to love one another [John 15:12]." So all that worship in the spirit and truth [John 4:23f], come to the spirit and truth in their own hearts, and love one another, and love enemies [Mat 5:44].

HPS 208f (Katharine Evans & Sarah Chevers, prisoners of the Inquisition, 1662): The Lord God ... did send his faithful messenger, ... armed with the whole armour of light [Rom 13:12], [who] went to the Lord Inquisitor to demand our lawful liberty, which would not be granted...; the Lord ... moved our dear brother to offer his own body to redeem ours, but it would not be received; then he offered to lay down his own dear and precious life for our liberty: Greater love can no man have, than to lay down his life for his Friend [John 15:13]; the Lord will restore it to his bosom double [Exo 22:4/Job 42:10]; his service can never be blotted out; his name is called Daniel Baker; his outward being is near London, a right dear and precious heart he is.

JN1:122 (1653): It is no new thing for the dearest servants and children of God to be a discourse, a reproach [Psa 22:6, 31:11], a taunt and byword [Psa 44:14], a wonder and a scorn to fools and wicked men, and to have the belly-god [Phil 3:19] and drunkard to make songs [Psa 69:12] of their said and afflicted conditions, and to be called by nicknames such as it pleaseth Ishmael's brood [Gen 21:9] to cast upon them, to be called devils, deceivers, heretics, fanatics, madmen [John 10:20], quakers, and such like; but it is that the same scriptures may be fulfilled in the saints that were in Christ their example : "As they have done unto me, so will they do unto you [margin: Luk 23:31]; it they keep my sayings, they will also keep yours [John 15:20]; if they have called the good man of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household [Mat 10:25]."

MFU 166 (1655): And thou saith you only believe such prophecies as in Scripture is set down. IP1:364 (1660): And this is the way of antichrist's prevailing, by getting the form, crying up that, winding his own fleshly spirit into that, and sheltering himself under that. Thus the Jews cried up the temple of the Lord, the sabbath, the law of Moses, and writings of the prophets; and under this cover, with great zeal persecuted Christ; he was looked upon as a blasphemer, as one against God's temple, his sabbath, his ordinances, &c. And since the days of Christ, the antichristian spirit speaks great words of Christ; his death, resurrection, ascension , intercession, &c., and of church order and discipline, that, under this cover, it may fight against the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth [John 15:26]; who alone can lead into truth [John 16:13], and which is the proper way of God's ministration since God's ascension. And this hath been the way of opposing truth ever since, and still is: and here is the antichrist, he that holds these in the wrong part, and by these fights against the true Spirit.
