RBA 447f (1678, XV:7): The use of clothes came originally from the fall; if man had not fallen, it appears he would not have needed them. But this miserable state made them necessary, in two respects: 1) to cover his nakedness [Gen 3:7], and 2) to keep him from the cold [Gen 3:21], which is both the proper and the principal use of them. Now, for man to delight himself in that which is the fruit of his iniquity, and is the consequence of sin, can be no ways lawful for him; so to extend things beyond their real use, or to superadd things wholly superfluous, is a manifest abuse of the creation, and therefore not lawful to Christians.

IP1: 113 (1659): Man, by nature, is dead in trespasses and sins [Eph 2:1]; quite dead, and his conscience wholly dark. That which giveth him the sense of his death, and of his darkness, must be another thing than his nature, even the light of the spirit of Christ, shining in his dark heart and conscience. It is the seed of the woman which not only destroys, but also discovers, all the deeds of the serpent. [Gen 3:15]

IP2: 443f (1666): Here are the two seeds (the seed of the serpent, the seed of the woman [Gen 3:15]) whose striving and fight is in man, when God awakens the soul; the one whereof hath a nature, a desire, or lust contrary to the other. Now as the one of these prevails in any heart, so the other goes down. As the one gains life and power, so the other is brought into death and captivity. So that this is it every one is to wait for, after they once come to the sensible knowledge and experience of these two, to feel the flesh brought down, the lusts of it denied, the judgments of the Lord administered to it; so that the other may come up to live, thrive, and prevail in the soul, and so the soul witness salvation and redemption under its shadow.

IP3: 175 (1668): But how know I this seed? may some inquire. Ans. By its nature, by its properties, by its manifesting of itself in my heart. It hath that light, that life, that power in it, which I have never met with anywhere else. It bruiseth the head of the serpent at its pleasure, whereby I know it to be the seed of the woman. IP4: 350f (1675?): As [the seed] springs, and its operations are felt and received, it brings into the image and nature of God. It blots out the devil’s image in the mind, and makes like God and like Christ. Yea, here we have the very mind of Christ, and are one with the mind of Christ [1 Cor 2:16]. As in the serpent’s seed, the serpent’s image and nature are put on, so in this seed, the image and nature of Christ are put on [Gen 3:15].

RBA 305 (1678, XI:10): ...these two births of the mind proceed from two seeds in man respectively, to wit, the good Seed and the evil. GF8: 69 (1674): And some men may say, man must have the power and superiority over the woman, because God says, "The man must rule over his wife [Gen 3:16]; and that man is not of woman, but the woman is of the man". Indeed, after man fell, that command was. But before man fell, there was no such command; for they were both meet-helps, they were both to have dominion over all that God made. IP3: 123 (1668) : Do ye know the paradise of God, and the tree of life there? Do ye indeed feed upon? Have ye passed through the flaming sword to the tree of life? GFJN 27 (16--): Now I was come up in spirit through the flaming sword into the paradise of God [Gen 3:24]. All things were new [Rev 21:5], and all the creation gave another smell than before, beyond what words can utter. I knew nothing but pureness, and innocency, and righteousness, being renewed up into the image of God by Christ Jesus [Col 3:10], so that I say I was come into the state of Adam which he was in before he fell.

GFT 193f (1680): Man and woman came then to be driven out of the garden, and a flaming sword placed every way with two edges to keep the way of the tree of life. So everyone must come through this two-edged flaming sword before they can come into the paradise of God. They must know this sword to cut down the transgressing life and earthly wisdom, to burn it up, before man can come to inherit life. [Gen 3:24/Heb 4:12]

RBA 86 (1678, IV:2): Now whatever literal signification this [Gen 3:24] may have, we may safely ascribe to this paradise a mystical signification, and truly account it that spiritual communion and fellowship, which the saints obtain with God by Jesus Christ; to whom only these cherubims give way, and unto as many as enter by him, who calls himself the Door [John 10:7-9]. So that, though we do not ascribe any whit of Adam's guilt to men, until they make it theirs by the like acts of disobedience; yet we cannot suppose that men, who are come of Adam naturally, can have any good thing in their nature, as belonging to it; which he, from whom they derive their nature, had not himself to communicate unto them.
