7:1 Having therefore [GBT: Seeing (G: +then) that we have] these [L: such] promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness [G: and finish our sanctification; BT: and grow up to full holiness] in the fear of God.

7:2 Receive [BT: Understand] us; we have wronged [G: done wrong to; T: hurt] no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

7:3 I speak not this to condemn you [G: it not to your comdemnation]: for I have said [BT: shewed you] before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you [G: together].

7:4 Great is my boldness of speech toward [G: I use great boldness...; BT: I am very bold over] you, great is my glorying of you [GBT: and (B: I) rejoice greatly in you; T has preceeding in v 3]: I am filled with comfort, I [GBT: and] am exceeding joyful [GBT: joyous] in all our tribulation [T: tribulations].

7:5 For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears [G: fightings without, and terrors within; BT: Outward was fightyng, inward was fear].

7:6 Nevertheless [G: But] God, that comforteth those that are cast down [GT: the abject; B: the humble], comforted us by [GT: at] the coming of Titus;

7:7 And not by [T: with (2x)] his coming only, but [GBT +also] by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in [B: which we received of] you, when he told us your earnest [G: great; BT omit] desire, your mourning [B: weeping], your fervent mind toward me [GT: to me-ward]; so that I rejoiced [T: now rejoice] the more.

7:8 For [T: Wherefore] though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent [GBT: repent not], though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath [GBT omit] made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

7:9 Now I [GB: I now; T: But I now] rejoice, not that ye were made [GBT omit] sorry, but that ye [BT +so] sorrowed to repentance [B: to repent; T: that ye repented]: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing [GBT: ye sorowed godly, so that in nothing ye were hurt by vs].

7:10 For godly sorrow worketh [GBT: causeth (2x)] repentance to [GBT: unto] salvation not to be repented of: but [T: when] the sorrow of the world [GT: the (T omits) worldly sorrow] worketh death.

7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it [G: this thing that ye have been godly sorry, what great care it hath; BT: what carefulness (T: diligence) this godly sorrow that ye took hath] wrought in you, yea, what clearing of [T: it caused you to clear] yourselves, yea, what [T: it caused (5x)] indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement [G: yea, how great; T: it caused] desire, yea, what zeal [G: yea, what a zeal; T: it caused a fervent mind], yea, what revenge [B: punishment]! In all things ye have approved [GBT: shewed] yourselves to be clear [G: that ye are pure; BT: that ye were clear] in this [B: the; T: that] matter.

7:12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the [T: did] wrong [BT: hurt], nor [GBT: neither] for his cause that suffered wrong [G: had the injury; BT: was hurt], but that our care for you [G: care toward you; B: good mind to us-ward; T: good mind which we have toward you] in the sight of God might appear unto you [B: might appear among you in the sight of God].

7:13 Therefore we were [BT: are] comforted in your comfort [GBT: because ye were (BT: are) comforted]: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we [G: but rather we rejoiced much more] for the joy of Titus [BT: that Titus had], because his spirit was refreshed by [T: of] you all.

7:14 For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake [G: I have spoken] all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth [G: unto Titus was true]. [7:14 BT: I am therefore not now ashamed, though I boasted myself to him of you. For as all things which we spake (T: I preached) unto you are true: even so (T: +is) our boasting that I made unto Titus is made true (T: that I boasted myself to Titus withal found true).]

7:15 And [T: +now is] his inward affection is [T omits] more abundant toward you, whilst [GBT: when] he remembereth [B: remembered] the obedience of you all [T: every one of you], [G: +and] how with fear and trembling ye received him.

7:16 I rejoice therefore [BT omit] that I have confidence in [G: may put my confidence in; B: be bole in; T: be bold over] you in all things.

8:1 Moreover [GT omits], brethren [GBT: omits], we [T: I] do you [G +also] to wit [GBT +also] of the grace of God bestowed on [BT: which was (T: is) given in] the churches [T: congregations] of Macedonia;

8:2 How that [G: because] in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy [G: their joy abounded] and their deep [G: most extreme] poverty abounded unto the riches of their [G: their rich] liberality. [8:2 BT: How that the abundance of their rejoicing is, that they are tried with much tribulation. And (T +thereto) though they were exceeding poor, yet have they given exceeding richly, and that in singleness.]

8:3 For to their power [BT: powers], I bear [B +them] record, yea, and beyond their power [B: powers] they were willing of themselves [GB omit; T: of their own accord];

8:4 Praying us with much intreaty [GBT: And prahyed us with great instance] that we would receive the gift [G: the grace; B: this grace; T: their benefit], and take upon us the fellowship of [G: fellowship of; B: society of; T: suffer them to be partakers with each other in] the ministering to [G: the ministering which is toward; B: the ministry to; T: in ministring to] the saints.

8:5 And this they did, not as we hoped [GBT: looked for], but first gave their own selves [GBT: gave their own selves first] to the Lord, and [GBT: +after] unto us by the will of God.

8:6 Insomuch that we desired [G: That we should exhort; BT: So that we could not but desire] Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also [G: that as he had begun, so he would also accomplish the same grace among you also; BT: to accomplish the same grace (T: benevolence) among you also, even as he had begun].

8:7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing [BT: Now therefore as ye are rich in all things (T: parties)], in faith, and utterance, and [G: and word, and; BT: in word, in] knowledge, and in all diligence [BT: ferventness], and in your love [BT: love whifch ye have] to [G: towards] us, [GBT: +even so] see that ye abound [BT: be plenteous] in this grace also [T: benevolence].

8:8 I speak [GBT: This say I] not by commandment [T: as commanding], but by occasion [GBT because] of the forwardness of others [GB: the dilgence (B: ferventness) of others; T: other are so fervent], and to prove the sincerity of your love [G: therefore prove I the naturalness of your love; B: and allowing the unfeignedness of your love; T: therefore prove I your love whether it be perfect or no].

8:9 For ye know the grace [T: liberality] of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was [G: he being; T: though he were] rich, yet for your sakes he [GT omit] became poor, that ye through his poverty might be [GBT: +made] rich.

8:10 And herein I give my advice [G: I shew my mind herein; BT: I give counsel hereto]: for this is expedient for you, who [GBT: which] have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward [GBT: not to do only, but also to will] a year ago.

8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it [G: to do it also; B: the thing which ye began to do; T: the deed]; that as there was a [BT: +in you] readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out [GBTP even so ye may perform it (BT: the deed)] of that which ye have.

8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

8:13 For I mean not [G: Neither is it; B: Truly, not; T: It is not my mind] that other men be eased, and ye burdened [G: men should be eased and you grieved; BT: be set at ease and ye brought into cumbrance]:

8:14 But by an equality, that now [G (v13b) upon like condition; BT: that there be equalness now] at this time [B: +and that; T: that] your abundance may be a supply for their want [GBT: supplieth (B: may succour; T: succour) their lack], that [G: that also; B: and that] their abundance also may be a supply for your want [GBT: may be for (BT: supply) your lack]: that there may be equality:

8:15 As it [T: Agreeing to that which is] is written, He that had gathered [B: had; T: gathered (2x)] much had nothing over [BT: not (T: never) the more abundance]; and he that had gathered little had no lack [GBT: not (T: never) the less].

8:16 But [G: And; BT omit] thanks be to God, which [G +hath] put [GT: +in the heart of Titus] the same earnest care [G: care; BT: good mind] into the heart of Titus [GT omit] for [T: toward] you

8:17 For indeed [GB: Because; T: For] he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward [G; yea, he was so careful that; BT: yea rather he was so well willing that], of his own accord he went [BT: came] unto you.

8:18 And we have sent [G: +also] with him the [BT: that] brother, whose praise [T: laud] is in the gospel throughout all the churches [T: congregations];

8:19 And not that [GT: so] only, but who was [GBT: is] also chosen of the churches [T: congregations] to travel with us with [GBT: to be a fellow (BT: +with us) in our journey, concerning] this grace [T: benevolence], which is administered [GBT: that is ministered] by us to the glory of the same [T: praise of the] Lord, and declaration of [BT: to stir up] your ready [GT: prompt] mind:

8:20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance [BT: For this we eschew, that any man should rebuke us in this plenteous distribution] which is administered [GBT: that is ministered] by us:

8:21 Providing [BT: And (T +therefore] make provision] for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord [G: only before the Lord; T: in the sight of God only], but also in the sight of [G: before] men.

8:22 And we have sent with them our brother [BT: a brother of ours], whom we have oftentimes proved [G: +to be] diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon [GB: for; T .] the great confidence which I have in you [T: +hath caused me this to do:].

8:23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he [BT: Partly for Titus' sake, which] is my partner and fellowhelper [GBT: fellow and helper] concerning you [G: to you-ward; T: as concerning you]: or our brethren be enquired of [G: or of our brethren; BT: partly because of other which are our brethren], they are the [G: they are; BT: and the] messengers of the churches [T: congregations], and the glory of Christ.

8:24 Wherefore shew ye to [G: toward] them, and before the churches [BT omit], the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf [GT: the rejoicing that we have of you; B: our rejoicing of you; B+in the sight of the churches; T +that the congregations may see it].

9:1 For as touching [BT: Of] the ministering to the saints, it is [BT +but] superfluous for me to write to you:

9:2 For I know the forwardness of your [GT: your readiness of; B: the readiness of your] mind, for which [GBT: whereof] I boast [GBT +myself] of you [T omits] to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready [GBT: ready] a year ago; and your zeal [T: ferventness] hath provoked very [GBT omit] many.

9:3 Yet [G: Now; T: Nevertheless yet] have I sent the [T: these] brethren, lest our boasting of [GT: rejoicing over; B: boasting which I make of] you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye [T: +and; GBT: that ye (as I have said)] may be ready [G: be ready; BT: prepare yourselves]:

9:4 Lest haply [GB omit; T: peradventure] if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) [G: we (that we may not say, you); B: we (I will not say you) T omits] [T: +the boast that I made in this matter] should be ashamed [T: a shame to us] in this same confident boasting [G: in this my constant boasting; B: in this matter of boasting; T: I say not unto you].

9:5 Therefore [GT: Wherefore] I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go [GBT: to come] before [BT: beforehand] unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before [G: and to finish your benevolence appointed afore; BT: and (T: for) to preparee your good blessing promised afore), that the same [GBT: it] might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness [G: and come as of benevolence, and not as of nigglardliness; BT: so that it be [B +as] a blessing, and not a defrauding].

9:6 But this I say [GT: This yet remember, (T +how) that] He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly [BT: little shall reap little]; and he which soweth bountifully [G: liberally; B: in giving largely and freely; T: plenteously] shall reap also bountifully [G: also liberally; BT: plenteously].

9:7 Every man according as he purposeth [G: As every man wisheth; BT: And (B omits) let every man do, according as he hath purposed] in his heart, so let him give [BT omit]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you [BT: you rich in all grace]; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work [BT: in all things having sufficient unto the utmost, may be rich unto all manner of good works] :

9:9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he [GBT: sparsed abroad and] hath given to the poor: his righteousness [G: benevolence] remaineth for ever.

9:10 Now he that ministereth [GT: findeth] seed to the sower [T: the sower seed] both minister [G: will minister likewise; B: ministreth; T: shall minister] bread for your [GBT omit] food, and multiply [B: multiplieth; T: shall multiply] your seed sown [GBT omit], and increase [B: increaseth] the fruits of your righteousness;)

9:11 Being enriched in every thing [GBT: That on all parts (B: in all things) ye may be made rich] to all bountifulness [G: unto all liberality; BT: into (T: in) all singleness], which causeth through us thanksgiving to [B: that thanks are given unto] God.

9:12 For the administration [G: minstration; T: office] of this service [T: ministration] not only supplieth the want [G: necessities; BT: need] of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God [G: also abundantly causeth many to give thanks to God; B: also is abundant by the thanksgiving of many unto God; T: also is abundant herein that for this laudable ministring thanks might be given to God of many];

9:13 Whiles [GBT: Which] by the experiment of this ministration [T omits] they glorify [GBT: praise] God for your professed subjection unto [G: your voluntary submission to; BT: the obedience of your consenting to (T: professing)] the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto [BT: singleness in distribuitng to] them, and unto all men;

9:14 And by [GT: in] their prayer [BT: prayers] for you, which [G: to; T omits] long after you [G: +greatly] for the exceeding [GBT: abundant] grace of God in [T: given unto] you.

9:15 Thanks [G: +therefore] be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

10:1 Now [BT omit] I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness [T: softness] of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you [GBT: which when I am present among you am base (B: lowly; T: of no reputation), but am bold toward you being absent]:

10:2 But [G: And this; BT omit] I beseech [G: require] you, that I may not [GBT: need not to] be bold when I am present with that [GBT +same] confidence, wherewith I think [BT: am, supposed] to be [B: have been] bold against some, which think of us as if [GBT: esteem (BT: repute) us as though] we walked according to the flesh [T: carnally].

10:3 For [GT: Nevertheless] though we walk in [T: compassed with] the flesh, [GBT: +yet] we do not war [T: war not] after the flesh [B: according to the flesh; T: fleshly]:

10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [T: war] are not carnal, but [T: carnal things but things] mighty through [T: in] God to the pulling down of [GBT: cast down] strong [G omits] holds;)

10:5 Casting down [BT: Wherewith we overthrow] imaginations [B: counsels], and every high thing that exalteth itself [GB: is exalted] against the knowledge of God, and bringing [BT: bring] into captivity every thought [B: all imagination; T: all understanding] to the obedience of Christ;

10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge [G: having ready the vengeance against; BT: are ready to take vengeance on] all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

10:7 Do ye look [GBT: Look ye] on things after the outward [G omits; BT: utter] appearance? If any man trust to [GBT: in] himself that he is Christ's, let him [T: the same] of himself think this again [GBT: consider this again (T: also consider) of himself], that, as he is Christ's [B: of Christ (2x)], even so are we Christ's.

10:8 For though I should boast [BT: +myself] somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction [T: to edify and not to destroy you], I should not be ashamed [G: I should have no shame; BT it shall (T: should) not be to my shame]:

10:9 [G: +This I say; T: +This say I] That I may not [BT: lest I should] seem as if I would terrify you [G: as it were to fear you; BT: as though I went about to make you afraid] by [GT: with] letters.

10:10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful [GBT: the letters (T: epistles), sayeth he, are sore and strong]; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible [G: is of no value; BT: rude].

10:11 Let such an one think this [BT: him that is such think on this wise], that, such [BT omit] as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also [BT: are we] in deed [T: deeds] when we are present.

10:12 For we dare not [T: cannot find in our hearts to] make ourselves of the number [BT: +of them], or compare ourselves with some that commend [GBT: to them which praise (T: laud)] themselves: but [G: but they understand not that; BT: nevertheless while] they measuring themselves by [GBT: measjure themselves with] themselves, and comparing themselves among [GBT: compare themselves with] themselves, are not wise [G omits; B: they understand not; T: they understood nought].

10:13 But we will not boast [GBT: rejoice] of things without our [G: of things which are not within; BT: above] measure, but according to the measure [T: quantity] of the rule which [G: line whereof; T: measure which] God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach [G: to attain; T: that reacheth] even unto you.

10:14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our [BT omit] measure, as though we reached not [GT: had not attained (T: reached)] unto you: for we are come as far as to you also [even to you also (T omits) have we come] in preaching [BT: with] the gospel of Christ:

10:15 Not boasting of things [G: +which are; BT: And we boast not ourselves] without our measure, that is, of [BT: out of measure in] other men's labours; but having [GBT: Yea (G omits) and we] hope, when your faith is increased [G: shall increase; BT + among you], that we shall be enlarged [GBT: to be magnified] by you [BT omit] according to our rule [G: line; B: measure; T: measure more] abundantly,

10:16 To [GT: And to; B: And that I shall] preach the gospel in the regions [GBT: those regions which are] beyond you, and [G omits] not to boast in another man's line of things [G: rejoice in another man's line, that is, in the things that are; B glory of those things which by another mans measure; T: rejoice of that which is by another man's measure] made ready to our hand [GBT: prepared already]

10:17 But he that glorieth, let him glory [GT: let him that rejoiceth, rejoice; B: let him that glorieth, glory] in the Lord.

10:18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved [GBT: he that praiseth himself is not allowed], but [G: +he] whom the Lord commendeth [GBT: praiseth].
